Travel · Scotland's Mountains

I enjoy getting out into the mountains and hills of Scotland; from the high plateau of the Cairngorms to the stunning ridges of the North-West Highlands there is an incredible range of landscapes and the possibility of finding true wilderness.

The reports page contains a record of my walks including a link to photos and my journal entries. I am also plotting my start points on a map for future use, this can be found on the map page. For wild camping related stuff, which I am just getting into, see this dedicated wild camp page. For my general hillwalking kit list see this equipment page.

I walk (and am a committee member) with the Stocket Hillwalking Club, a friendly group of Aberdeen-based hillwalkers who hire a coach out for a monthly day walk. Using the coach typically allows for more through-walks, giving the opportunity to tackle hills from unusual approaches as well as allowing for a beer or two on the way home!

My photos have been featured in this guide to a traverse of Liathach and this guide to climbing Ben Wyvis on the excellent Walk Highlands website.

Notes

1. I didn't start using a GPS device to track my distance, time and ascent until 2009
2. In 2008 I climbed Sgurr Nan Ceannaichean which, in 2009, was demoted from Munro status
