Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy
With the Moon now out of the picture this was my first good opportunity to observe Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy as it slowly rose through the winter constellations of Orion and Taurus. Now in Taurus some distance from the Hyades the comet was easy to pick up as a puff of light in the finderscope. Through the 40mm eyepiece it was a bright, pale green ball of fuzz surrounding a pinpoint nebula. I used higher magnification and with averted vision could detect the distorted shape of the coma. I used the 50mm lens on my dSLR to get a widefield shot of the comet.
1x6s exposure at ISO 800, 50mm at f/1.8, processed using Aperture.
